Now is a great time to start seeds indoors and plan ahead for your garden. Repurposing old containers is a free, eco-friendly way to reduce waste while growing new plants indoors.
Almost any plastic container can be used to start your seeds. Just poke several small holes in the bottom of the container with a sewing needle to allow for proper drainage. If your container has an attached lid, you can use it as a humidity dome to help seedlings thrive; or remove it to create two separate planting trays.
You can even use empty water bottles or soda bottles. Just cut them in half, fill the bottom half with soil and they’re ready for planting. If you tape the top half of the bottle back on after seeding, you can use it as a humidity dome, with the cap as an air vent.
With a little creativity and a few recycled materials, you can get a head start on your gardening while making a positive impact on the planet.
